For most people Valentine’s Day is an excuse to hook-up and eat chocolate. Well hey, that sounds good to me too, but surely we can be more creative than that! Why not mix things up this V-Day with a fun workout you can do with your workout partner or significant other?
Today I am going to demonstrate the concept of partner training. Partner training is essentially a workout that involves performing total-body joint exercises with at least one or more other persons. There are literally a ton of benefits to partner training that include:
1.) Social Support and Accountability
2.) Some or No Equipment Needed
3.) Provides a Ton of Variety
4.) Breeds Competition and Drives Better Results
5.) It’s Hella FUN!
Partner training definitely spices things up in my boot camps, classes and group fitness training sessions ALL THE TIME. The inner freaks seem to come out of the woodwork whenever you train with someone else simply because you are involuntarily pushed to the limit with no better way to make your body change and break out of a frustrating and boring training rut.… My clients and I have a tendency to joke when hearing the most hilarious grunts and animal sounds during partner workouts (ha ha ha)!
But, being that it’s the most important holiday of the year (yeah, I was laying down some serious sarcastic undertones there), let’s make today’s partner training workout a little more serious and intimate if you will.
So grab your workout partner or luvah and try this kick-ass-one out!
The Valentine’s Day Workout for Couples- Reio Style Partner Training
This 30-minute total body partner workout (not including a 10 minute warmup and and stretch) will consist of total-body-based exercises that combine aerobic and anaerobic exercises for ultimate fat loss and muscle toning during and after your workout. With combining the two aspects, you will burn a tremendous amount of calories during exercise and thirty-eight hours after your workout! For each exercise at each outlined station below you will alternate between 10 – 15 repetitions of work and 10 seconds of rest. You will repeat this sequence (lasts about four minutes) five times for twenty-four total minutes followed by a one-minute rest and and transition in between each set:
Station#1- Partner Chest Press
Station #2- Partner Squats
Station #3- Partner Deadlifts
Station #4- Partner Sumo-Deadlifts with an Upright Row and Lunge
Now go ask someone to be your valentine and handle your business! They say that sweat-driven pheromones are one of nature’s most powerful aphrodisiacs… you tell me
And of course, whether coming to the Valentines Day boot camp and/or trying this workout, enjoy a little post-workout dip in the HOT TUB… You’ll need it!
Until next time…
Make it happen!
Damon Reio
PS- Head out to the Love and Sweat Valentine’s Day Boot Camp this Saturday at 12:30 pm and make it a date with your partner to offset the crap you may indulge in anyway! It’s free but whether it’s your loved one, friend or co-worker, you have to bring a partner to get in… not really; just come.
